Project BPAFrame Phase 2* - Framework for Business Process Automation

A framework for the decentralized control of workflow management systems (WfMS) has been developed using C++ and CORBA. Main focus of the project was on dynamic adaptation to changing characteristics of resources, e.g. changes of new workflow types. Additionally, the framework has to be easily adaptable to different application areas of WfMS. The framework intends to represent all essential elements as business objects to benefit from their autonomous and flexible concept.

Up to now, the following components are realized:

> Decentralized control with active objects interpreting the workflow description during runtime.

> Workspace with browsers and viewers for the visualization of Business Objects (still without comfortable editors).

> Integration of essential CORBAservices, own implementation of POS (Persistence Object Service).

Current research focuses on:

> Organizational structure with users and roles (as business objects)

> Textual editor for workflow-types based on an extended version of the interpreter language (AgentScript2). This work includes error recovery constructs.

> Scalable monitor based on CORBA event service (for processing control of workflows and for the admin-tool).

Near future work shall be on (see also survey of diploma topics):
